Windows ME - Dialup Connection

If you have already configured your computer to connect and need to check the settings, click here.

Windows ME can be configured easily using the Internet Connection Wizard. Click here for instructions.

If you are unable to start the Connection Wizard or if you do not wish to use the Connection Wizard, you can set up Windows ME manually:

Open My Computer, double click the Control Panel, and open Dial-Up Networking. Double click Make New Connection.

Enter Economy ISP for the Connection name and, if necessary, select your modem from the drop down list. Click Next.

Enter your Local Access Number into the Telephone number field. Click Next then click Finish.

If you need 10-digit dialing, or if you have special dialing codes:

Right click the Economy ISP icon and select Properties. -- OR -- Click once on the Economy ISP icon to highlight it, click the File menu and select Properties.

Uncheck Use area code and Dialing Properties and enter your Local Access Number into the Telephone Number field.

While you can enable Dialing Properties, we recommend you type the entire number INCLUDING properties into the "Telephone Number:" field. The number should be entered exactly as it needs to be dialed. For example, if you need to dial the area code enter the number as XXX-XXX-XXXX.

To disable call waiting, type in *70, XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have tone dialing or 1170, XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have pulse dialing. Note: Some phone companies use 70# to disable call waiting; if this applies to you, type in 70#, XXX-XXX-XXXX. If you are not sure what your call waiting code is, please contact your telephone company for this information.

If you need to dial 9 to get an outside line, enter the number as 9, XXX-XXXX.

Note: Dashes (-) and spaces are not required, but using dashes can allow you to more clearly distinguish the area code from the exchange and the final 4 digits.

Click OK to save the changes.

To add an icon to your desktop: Right click the Economy ISP icon and choose Create Shortcut. When prompted, select Yes to place the icon on the Desktop.

Help us help you! If you contact Economy ISP support for assistance please write down any error messages you get when trying to connect to the Internet. Include the name and version of your operating system and the exact text of all error messages. Please be aware that some troubleshooting may require uninstallation and reinstallation of operating system files. To ensure that this type of troubleshooting can be accomplished if required, please be sure that you have to have original Operating System CD or Operating system source files on disk on hand.
