Windows NT - Dialup Connection

If you have Internet Explorer 4, or 5 installed, Windows NT can be configured easily using the Internet Connection Wizard. If you have already configured your computer to connect and need to check the settings, click here.

If you have Internet Explorer 5, you will have the Internet Connection Wizard version 5. Click here for instructions.

If you have Internet Explorer 4, you will have the Internet Connection Wizard version 4. Click here for instructions.

If you are unable to start the Connection Wizard or if you do not wish to use the Connection Wizard, you can set up Windows NT manually:

Open My Computer and double click Dial-Up Networking. Note: If Dial-Up Networking is not already installed, you may be prompted for your Windows NT CD-ROM.

When Dial-Up Networking opens, click the New button to create a New Phonebook Entry.

Name the new phonebook entry Economy ISP and click Next.

Check the options for I am calling the Internet and Send my plain text password if that's the only way to connect and click Next.

Do not check Use Telephony dialing properties. Enter your Local Access Number into the Phone Number field.

While you can enable Dialing Properties, we recommend you type the entire number INCLUDING properties into the "Telephone Number:" field. The number should be entered exactly as it needs to be dialed. For example, if you need to dial the area code enter the number as XXX-XXX-XXXX.

To disable call waiting, type in *70, XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have tone dialing or 1170, XXX-XXX-XXXX if you have pulse dialing. Note: Some phone companies use 70# to disable call waiting; if this applies to you, type in 70#, XXX-XXX-XXXX. If you are not sure what your call waiting code is, please contact your telephone company for this information.

If you need to dial 9 to get an outside line, enter the number as 9, XXX-XXXX.

Note: Dashes (-) and spaces are not required, but using dashes can allow you to more clearly distinguish the area code from the exchange and the final 4 digits.

Click Finish. The new phonebook entry should be setup.

To add an icon to your desktop: Select your Economy ISP connection from the Phonebook entry to dial drop down menu and click the More button. Choose Create shortcut to entry. When prompted, choose to save the shortcut on your Desktop and click OK.

Help us help you! If you contact Economy ISP support for assistance please write down any error messages you get when trying to connect to the Internet. Include the name and version of your operating system and the exact text of all error messages. If this information is included in an online case submission or provided to a support representative, it will greatly speed up the troubleshooting process.

Please be aware that some troubleshooting may require uninstallation and reinstallation of operating system files. To ensure that this type of troubleshooting can be accomplished if required, please be sure that you have to have original Operating System CD or Operating system source files on disk on hand.
